May 7, 2016 would have been Rabindranath Tagore’s 155th birthday (He was born on May 7, 1861.) While the rest of the (Anglophone) world is celebrating Shakespeare’s 400th anniversary, Silverfish Books will celebrate the life and works of the first Asian (and Indian) Nobel Laureate. He received the award for literature in 1913. (The Malaysian connection would be his visits to Malaysia -- during one of which he laid the foundation stone for the Hu Yew Seah building in Madras Lane, Penang in 1927-- and Latiff Mohidin’s Malay translation of Gitanjali.) -- Venue: Silverfish Books in Bangsar Village 2, May 7, 5.00pmRead More

The much awaited and anticipated (no one for a moment thought he wouldn't write it) book is here now, delivered just a few minutes ago, which means I have not had the time to read it.

Having known Rehman for so many years (actually, decades; I first met him in the eighties at Magick River) I won't be expecting apologies. I would expect him to be neither safe nor sorry, which is what makes a great book.
