Miyah and the Forest Demon

The story begins when Raseh, the shaman of Tapoh, gives thanks to the ancestral spirits for a bountiful harvest. Unknown to him, an uninvited spirit also enters the longhouse and notices a young child sleeping in a corner.

One morning, Miyah's mother asks her to remain in the longhouse and look after her younger brother Bongsu. But it is a beautiful day and Miyah has promised to meet her friends, Suru. Kumang and Malidi, at a waterfall upstream. Miyah disobey her mother and joins her friends at the waterfall. A sun-shower, a harbinger of misfortune, reminds Miyah of Bongsu. She returns home to find Bongsu missing!
