In 1999 the Malaysian government launched a non-mandatory Code of Practice on the Prevention of Sexual Harassment in the work place. Based on a year's research this clearly set-out account traces how the Code has been implemented in six selected companies. Among the matters addressed are: definitions and perceptions of sexual harassment by employers and employees in Malaysia and elsewhere; legal provisions; workplace gender stereotypes and expectations; the impact of the Code and a critical assessment of its effectiveness and relevance; and good practice suggestions.
