This play is a thriller set in at the end of World War II, after Japanese surrender but before the British return to Malaya. Two men unexpectedly meet on a country road in 1945, at a plank-bridge river crossing. Fook Leong, a former school teacher, and a communist guerrilla leader, who is hurrying south to capture Singapore before the British do, sees a handcart by the road. Thinking Fook Leong is a bandit about to rob him, the cart owner, Chandran, attacks him. The two men resolve the situation but discover far deeper conflicts between them as their destinies collide.
